This manipulation indeed
This manipulation indeed works, but has to be done each time you switch on the printer (maybe not for everybody but for me and many others). Does somebody has a permanent solution?

Yep, a fix that work for more
Yep, a fix that work for more than one print job would be good. Some people have said that taking battery out works - however I looked inside my C4480 yesterday and there is no battery. Maybe in earlier models/revisions mine is Rev C

And in an OLED, each dot

After a paper jammed in my HP C4480, the replacement cartridge I had been using did not seem to be good any more. I found a solution for c4480 "incompatible cartridge" which worked for me.
1. Press X power at the same time
2. Press BLUE, GREEN, GRAY
3. press BLUE until you see "INFORMATION MENU"
4. press OK
5. Press Blue until you see "CHECKSUM FOR RELOCK DATA INPUT"
6. OK
7. Press X until you exit all menus
8. When prompted for alignment cancel it with X. This should bypass the error.
