LG Tritan
Consumers have noted the following concerns, they may be of interest to you if you are researching a product before purchase.
This list may not be complete. The updating process is manual, it requires your feedback to notify us of other issues, manufacturer supplied fixes, product recalls or other information which might affect this entry. - Users of Alltel, (an American carrier) have complaints. Alltel has blocked or made it difficult for users to put custom ringtones on phones so that users have to buy them. Please read this for futher info on mobile phone issues.
- In order for your computer to recognize the Tritan as a USB Mass Storage Device, you must have an SD card installed.
- Some users have noted that certain brands and capacities of SDcard are not easily recognized by the phone. If you are having trouble attempt the recognition process with a well known brand of SDcard with a capacity of 2Gb or less.
"When you plug the phone in it brings up with a window on the phone asking if you want USB Modem or USB Mass Storage mode. If you select Mass Storage it will connect as mass storage and use the drivers vista already has. If you don't select anything or if you select USB Modem then you need the drivers so the phone is seen by the PC as a modem. It will only ask if you want Mass Storage mode if you have a microSD card in the phone." ~ received via e-mail. Thank you.
An alternative is to let the phone be recognized as a USB Modem and use Bitpim. But to do that, you have to manually change the phone type in Bitpim to "LG Dare", then find the correct folders under Filesystem.
A link to the modem driver is found in the info box below it may not be the most up to date but if you go to the LG mobile phone support site you may have better luck than I did actually finding some useful support info.

I'll agree with the above comment.
The SD card needs to be in and the driver defaults to the modem selection if it isn't.
I can't say if XP has the generic driver for this either , I am running win7 and couldn't check.

Just wanted to add that the drivers for this phone are generic and included with Vista, I am not sure about XP. Anyone ? There are updates on the LG Mobile site.
Company support info here http://www.notascoolasitseems.com/company/lg
Anyway, I can confirm that the SDcard needs to be in the phone for it to be recognised as a mass storage device, the driver automatically defaults to modem otherwise.
