Traffic alerts
Your 1450T may not be set up correctly with a subscription service to provide the traffic details.
If you purchased the device in Australia it probably came bundled with a "device lifetime service subscription" from www.sunatraffic.com.au
Check your settings to confirm this.
If you are in the USA it is possible that you may need to purchase or renew a subscription.
Depending on where you bought it you may incur an ongoing annual fee to maintain the service.
Visibility of the current speed and legal speed limits should be easily enabled through the device set up. Here is the owners manual http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/3130_OwnersManual.pdf

Garmin Nuvi 1450T
Machine is great generally.
I don't like not being able to turn off the "beep" noises it makes without muting the whole machine in the process but I can live with it....not a big deal.
I bought it for the wide screen and don't give a damn about any kind of updates to traffic or anything else where I'd have to tolerate any kind of "popups"....I can't stand having that kind of crap shoved down my throat on TV and I sure won't tolerate it in any GPS unit.
I've used GPS since it first came out and think it's the greatest invention since the map and it just keeps getting better and better.
Garmin leads the league now and if you want a great machine this is it.
I never can believe the unbearable nit-picking that people do when rating any item....NOTHING is ever good enough for them. Some go on ad nauseam.
Buy this item, you won't be disappointed.

Umm ...
I never can believe the unbearable nit-picking that people do when rating any item....NOTHING is ever good enough for them. Some go on ad nauseam.
If it was a toss up over buying this item or another GPS and you decided to buy this based on the extra traffic features but didn't know it was add supported, wouldn't you have been disappointed?
That nitpicking is helpful to some of us, it lets us know about the small problems and gotchas most products have. For some people that small problem might be of no consequence for others it might be a deal breaker.
Harsh reviews and sites like this are good tools to make sure you don't buy a product you will personally find frustrating.

I wouldn't have been
I wouldn't have been disappointed....I'd have EXPECTED that. That's the crooked way companies work nowadays. I'd have taken the item back.
You will likely never buy a multi-faceted piece of electronic gadegetry that will satisfy you 100%. If you're into nit-picking of almost any product why bother even buying it in the first place? There's no perfect product that'll satisfy everyone anyway. Some of you nitpickers wouldn't be satisfied if the companies made the item to your exact specifications.
If uber-nitpicking is helpful for you you're way too fussy. You'jj always be disappointed.

Has anyone noticed that sometimes evenif you have set it to avoid certain routes (e.g. avoid freeway) and it will still route you through freeway. Any feedback?

black screen
our garmin nuvi 1450T is six months from purchase. it worked fine until today morning when the screen would not light up. we pushed the on/off switch several times and have tried connecting it to computer to no avail. Same thing happened to my backup 3.5" garmin nuvi. Right after the 1450T, I can speculate that it has something to do with driving along the border with Mexico which it does have map coverage.

Garmin 1450t off road routes
I have upgraded from a Garmin Map 12 to the 1450t. It is great, but I cannot get it to create an off-road route, as in hiking where there is no know destination. The Map 12 could create a bread-crumb trail, allowing me to follow the trail back to the beginning.

Garmin 1450t off road routes
Same here. I just got my 1450LMT last week and I can't get it to use an off-road route either. It insists on using nearby roads even though I have Navigation set to off road and it is in pedestrian mode. Has anyone else got this working?

1450T supposed to have traffic on it... I cant get traffic or speed limits to come up. Well -- it did once -- inside a car wash - it said 35miles an hour speed limit? in the car wash ... lordy - Feed back anyone .. Garmin has been non-responsive ?
