Adding Other Avenues Of Discovery

Thursday Feb 26th A quick rundown of some of the things I have done over the last 3 days to make the site more visible.

  • I added Open search capabilities to my site, it allows people to add the sites search engine to their web browser.
  • I created the search with the help of searchplugins.net
  • I also created a second search plugin and submitted it to http://mycroft.mozdev.org/
  • I listed the site on StumbleUpon.
  • I listed the site on Delicious.
  • A friend placed a link on Facebook for me.(I don't use it)

I now have over 300  product listings and various pages to help users find support from companies, pretty happy about how things are going.

I added the Amazon links with images to the product listings , this is where I hope the revenue will come from to pay for the hosting of the site.

After doing this I went through the site checking all the links, on the 28th I found a dead image link. The Amazon links were static, if a product disappeared, its image changed or Amazon modified its linking policies I was screwed. Seeing that dead link made me stir a little. What if Amazon wanted to change their policies or they for some reason suspended my account? That would mean I would have to modify every page by hand......

The dead image was bringing up some unpleasant issues that I would have to deal with.
